Hello, I’m Tom Peters, a UK based professional Record Producer and Mix Engineer with close to a decade of experience. My clients cover a huge array of musical genres and include The Fall, Grace Davies, Vennart, Mike Dignam, Vasa, Jeramiah Ferrari, Body Hound, Wot Gorilla?, Cleft and The Hyena Kill to name a few.
I started my career as the Studio Assistant at The Grand Studio in rural Lancashire back in 2011 and was quickly promoted to Studio Manager. I moved on from The Grand in 2017 to set up my own business, settling in Liverpool where I built and opened Trapdoor Studio in 2019 following a short stint working from Liverpool’s highly regarded Motor Museum.
I’ve also had the excellent pleasure of touring around the country, working from many of its finest studios and have also been flown over to Ireland a couple of times to run sessions which is something I love doing. Other studios I’ve worked from include Motor Museum (Liverpool), The Edge (Cheshire), Woodworm (Oxfordshire), 45 A-Side (Glasgow), Hellfire (Dublin) and Start Together (Belfast) and a whole host of other places.
I am also a touring musician playing guitar in Alpha Male Tea Party (of which I have produced all our recordings to date).
I produce all music as I would like to hear it and in a way that is right for the artist. At the root of my production is the desire for the individual character and personality of a performance to shine through on any recording. In other words, I want you to sound like you.
When you’re in the studio with me, I want you to have fun. I want you to feel completely at ease and be able to completely explore your creative spirit. A recording session should be something to look back on with great fondness and your recordings should always be a great reminder of that.
For larger projects such as EPs and Albums, I prefer to run Pre-Production sessions which gives me the opportunity to understand your music and how I can best translate that into a recording you will be proud of for years to come.
Please hop over to the contacts tab if you have any more questions about my work.
Christian Wright, Mastering Engineer Abbey Road (Ed Sheeran, Blur, Keane) – “Tom’s mixes are always a pleasure to work on and always sonically exciting. Although perhaps known for the harder side of his discography he’s adept and skilled in a variety of genres.”
John Simm, Cleft – “We keep coming back to work with Tom at The Grand Studio as everything we’ve done there has turned into diamonds. He’s a great engineer, the place has a nice relaxed atmosphere and most importantly the recordings sound amazing.
Nick Duke, MINNO – “it sounds as good as I imagined it would, so it was the correct choice”
Ben Griffiths, Falls – “The main thing that keeps us coming back is how approachable and committed an engineer Tom is. There’s never any rush or pressure, and the results are always first class.”
Steven Dobb, The Hyena Kill – “Tom is an excellent engineer and producer, his work ethic keeps you as a musician focussed and on task without being too demanding. I instantly felt comfortable and ready to work. I think a major role to play in this was Tom’s attitude and personality. We are immensely proud of the record we made and look forward to making our next record with Tom.”
